The Book and Brew takeover is back in February – and I have a wonderful group of guest writers for you all.
Throughout February, 14 amazing writers will be joining us to share their views on reading, writing and working in the publishing industry.
It’s going to be amazing!
Let’s take a look at what’s coming up…
The joy of reading
A host of readers will be waxing lyrical about books and what they mean to them. Paulina Ayala will talk about what it means to be a “proper reader”, Kay Page will tell us about the books that changed her life, while Samantha Wood will be explaining her love of words.
Rebecca Tudor will be looking back at some of the books she read as a child to see how her adult perspective might have changed them, and Lindsay Narey will outline her latest reading challenge.
Plus, Julie Swain will tell us how books help her cope with the stresses of day-to-day life.
Being a writer
Being a writer is what a lot of you are working towards. But, it’s not always as glamorous as it sounds and comes from tonnes of hard work. Writers at various stages in their careers will join us to discuss some of the struggles and joys they’ve experienced on their author journeys.
Jane Cable will tell us about growing from an independent author to a writer with a book deal, Emma Whitehall will give you tips on networking with other writers, and Jennifer C Wilson will address the peril of “second novel syndrome”.
And, Katie Doherty will be looking at creative minds and what makes them tick.
Behind the scenes
And, last but not least, the takeover will feature a collection of insightful articles from people who work behind the scenes in the publishing world.
Who are these delightful creatures, I hear you ask? Well, we have:
- Jamie McGarry, founder and editor at Valley Press
- Mike Fraser, part of the team that runs the Berwick Literary Festival
- Jacky Collins, organiser of Newcastle Noir
- Helen Stanton, owner of indie bookshop Forum Books
Jamie, Mike, Jacky and Helen will be unveiling the realities of running an indie press, bookshop or festival, and telling us how their passion for books sustains their work. It’s a real privilege to have folks of their calibre talking to Book and Brew about the wonderful things they do to keep us stocked with great stories.
Phew! February is going to be an awesome month on Book and Brew. These 14 writers are sure to inspire you to read, write or set up your own indie empire so please come back next month to join in the fun.
P.S. Thanks to all of the other people who applied to take part in the takeover. Sorry I couldn’t fit you all in this time.
