Judging the Man Booker Prize

Man Booker Prize fever has overtaken Book and Brew headquarters this evening. We’ve just discovered that we’ll be official shadow judges for this year’s prize.

The delightful lot at The Reading Agency have chosen us as one of six book clubs to review a book from the shortlisted titles. Sixty book clubs applied to take part so we’re thrilled to have made it through.

At the moment, the 12 longlisted books are out and there’s an eclectic bunch of titles and diverse range of writers in the running. Check out this summary to get up to speed.

The shortlist will be announced on 13 September and we’ll then find out which title we’ll be reviewing.

Look out for lots of pictures, tweeting, quotes and general sharing of our excitement at being involved.

Claire and I will also be heading to London in October to attend the shortlist readings where we’ll no doubt be bothering authors and going full-throttle book geek at Southbank Centre.

Book and Brew ladies

We’ve already been out to celebrate – with a good brew and brownies – and reminisced about our Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction shadowing experience earlier this year.

Now, we just have to wait to find out what we’ll be reading. Let the countdown begin!
